Letter from the Chairman of the Board

Welcome to the new updated MEACO website. The concept of MEACO as an organization is to build relationships among ophthalmology societies in our region. Thus, the Pan Arab Council of Ophthalmology (PACO) was established in 1988 with 20 country members. The Council has grown since then to include 34 countries of the Middle East and Africa and named the Middle East Africa Council of Ophthalmology (MEACO).
The main functions of MEACO are to promote collegiality among the national ophthalmic societies and their members. MEACO has succeeded in building close ties with regional and international ophthalmic societies and international organizations such as the International Council of Ophthalmology (ICO).
Our primary objective is to guarantee the high level of clinical ophthalmology in the Middle East and Africa and, thereby the eye health of the population.
